What is a Vivencia ?
It is a sequence of exercises taken from the Biodanza system and
ordered to benefit you at all levels. Biodanza works on the
physiological, emotional, spiritual,
instinctual and connection levels
of living. There are no set steps, but demonstrations and guidelines
are given by the teacher on how to carry out each exercise to
maximise
the beneficial effects.
What can I expect from Jewell’s Biodanza class?
The session lasts 1 hour 30 mins and
there will be a brief speaking part at the beginning about
self-regulation and a little Biodanza background.
It is advisable not to talk about the
Biodanza experience directly afterwards – to give the body time to just
be with the vivential experience, but you
can share about things and
ask me questions the following week if you arrive early (I am always at venues about 30 mins before class start time.)
Being on time is important, the doors are open before the class. As it is disruptive to the Vivencia for people to enter once
the dance is in progress, there
will be a ‘do not enter - class in
progress’ sign up as soon as the movement part commences.
What can I expect from a Vivencia ?
Generally, we will start and end with a circle to symbolise the unity
of the group. However, if numbers are small we may just hold hands and
move on to the walking part.
At the beginning of the vivencia there
will be warm up exercises usually including walking, pair work, warm up
dance and sometimes games.
This will be followed by moving towards the
focus/theme of this class progressively through a set of exercises –
there are usually around 15 exercises per Vivencia.
The exercises are
very varied, but all of them work on moving you towards more enjoyment of
life in one way or another.
Biodanza works with the lines of: Vitality;
Creativity; Affectivity Sexuality/Sensuality and Transcendence.
When
the group is ready we will work more deeply. Regular attendance will
have the most benefit on your physical and emotional health.
Can anyone do Biodanza?
Most people with some level of mobility can do Biodanza – doing the
exercises will over time improve the body’s integration, co-ordination,
fluidity and regulation.
However, it is a progressive system that is
ordered to gradually move towards deeper exercises and more contact,
therefore if you have done none or little Biodanza
before you will be
in a beginners’ class. With regular attendance you will be able to
enter into a deepening class – this isn’t open to people
who haven’t
done much Biodanza. Generally, with regular weekly attendance, this
level is achieved by around 3 or 4 months of classes.
Should I take all the Classes proposed in the Programme?
Regular attendance promotes the benefits of health, well-being and
connection that Biodanza offers, but the crucial point to Biodanza is
to listen to the body
and follow this through self-regulation. It will
be appreciated if you let me know if you can’t make it then I can
inform the rest of the group – it is amazing how
quickly someone is
missed once a group has danced together for a few months.
